...but no baby yet!
I was in the hospital for a couple of days because on Thursday a.m. I woke up after my third near sleepless night in a row sneezing and hacking up my lungs (or so it seemed, except nothing came out) and being tortured by what felt like cramps to me but what seemed to be mild contractions aggravated by everything else. I sat on the couch and cried until my husband called my doctor for me, and she said to go to the hospital. So I did, thinking they'd write me an antibiotic of some kind and let me go home after a few hours.
Two days later I was still there. I was checked and checked and checked again because I'm over my due date and in good old Germany, that means being poked and prodded every two days regular. There are contractions but they're too little and irregular to be taken seriously. Oh good. (*sarcasm*)
Turns out I have a cold (big surprise) and tonsilitis, according to the ear, nose and throat specialist. Seeing as I can't take much medicine when Baby can pop up at any time, I have to deal with it with old fashioned non-medicine remedies, which I've been doing for weeks without success. Still, the nurses gave me a few tips that really helped, I finally got a couple good nights sleep and I feel 100 percent better. I actually feel like I can get through delivering a baby! And now I know all the doctors and nurses who have day and night duty in the Kreißsaal over the next week. I'll certainly be back in the next seven days. Everybody said goodbye to me with a "See you soon!".
It's very sad to be in the maternity ward for a couple days and *not* have a baby. On the other hand, I feel really confident about going into the delivery - whenever it happens (are you listening, Baby????) -- after getting a chance to talk so much with the doctors and nurses. At the moment, though, it looks like Baby is happy where it is. Though I was informed for all I know, I'll be back in the hospital later tonight, or tomorrow, or Monday etc. It's out of my control.
So I didn't get a chance yet to say THANK YOU to darling *Woefle* for the CD! It's smashing! Thank you!
And for everyone else, hope you're all well, and I'll keep you posted.

Come out, little baby! We want to meet you! :D

Thanks, Sam
My child has now earned the time-honored name "Chicken Baby" for being too chicken to come out. You'd think the shame of that name alone would get things going, but not yet...August 6 2005, 12:02:38 UTC 6 years ago
So sorry to hear you've been feeling so bad, Merc. I hope it clears up soon. I've sent you prezzies for Baby, along with one from Pam (who says Hello!). Two of them are ones I don't think you get in Germany, the series is quite big in Britain. I hope you and Junior will like them. And I'm compiling the CD for you, so hopefully you'll get that soon.
Wishing you all the best!
P.S. Junior! Hurry up!!!

And Jürgen tried to read your comment out loud in your accent. Didn't quite manage but it gave us a laugh. Thanks for the pep talk. This baby obviously has a mind of its own. Which is a good thing, right?

Grinning like a loon...
Jurgen is trying to do Glaswegian female impersonations.*blinks*
*lip twitches*
*falls to the floor, laughing like a hyena*
He is a prince amongst men, your husband. I'm going to be grinning all day at work tomorrow, which is what I'll need. Danke, mein Herr! *Merrymoll's just done a WHOLE SENTENCE in German! Is proud*
Glad you like the prezzies - I saw Crunchy (love it!) and KNEW he had to be Junior's! And Mr Men are always good - I was reading them both before I wrapped them up. Gripping stuff, so they are! More's on the way - still no Katie Morag, but my search continues apace...
And Junior! Squirrels! Cool stuff! Get a move on!

Keep drinking tea, and gets lots of sleep, and lay on the couch with movies. That is my sound medical advice about colds. As far as the tonsillitis goes . . . I dunno. My family has this weird genetic trait where your tonsils dissolve when you're in your teens so I have never had first-hand experience with that. But hopefully tea and rest cure that too. :D
And please do keep us posted on the little Mercator once he or she decides to get on with it. Solely so everyone can go "TEH CUTE AWWWW *cuteness-induced spasms*". :)
